BioFireAssess — Fire Risks of Bio-based Insulation Materials
Patrick investigates how bio-based insulation materials behave under fire conditions. His research assesses new and innovative testing protocols so biogenic materials can be specified safely at scale.
He studied Safety and Hazard Prevention in Magdeburg, Germany. Before joining DBI in August 2024, he worked for six years as a Research Associate in Structural Fire Safety at Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences. His research focused on the fire behavior of bio-based materials. In his first research project, he investigated the leakage behavior of timber joint connections exposed to fire. For his PhD, he developed a numerical model to predict the smoldering behavior of bio-based insulation materials. As a Postdoctoral Researcher at DBI, he continues to work on bio-based insulation materials, with a particular focus on developing assessment methodologies for their fire behavior as part of an industrial postdoc project.
